![]() ![]() As for Jbeil itself, quite a lively place, good souk souvenir shopping, lots of bars and cafes courtyard is lovely with a lot of variety for food from cheap to expensive plus there's a busker near the gate of the castle. Staff were really good at exchanging money and the service was very friendly and helpful. TV channels were also good for an english speaker. Room was a good size with a few minor scrapes around the room but very good condition, cleaning was great - no hassle to get out if you want to sleep in and a nice bathroom. Laundry service was what you expect from a 4 star plus and no problems using the phone for calls (unlike Jordan). Breakfast was generous for room service (1 of 2 rooms booked into the hotel) and buffet was fine. True, it's a 10-15mins walk from the souk but it's very handy for all sorts of things: cash machine out the front, shopping centre down the road with a great cafe Moka & More, Bou Khalil supermarket close by, grocery market for fresh fruit across the road and a few takeaway shops and patisseries along the way. I had booked the King George which was badly maintained and too far out so walked into the Canari de Byblos and for a few dollars more got another world. After Beirut walking around Byblos aka Jbeil was reasonably less nerve wracking. We found our room had been left *unlocked* on TWO occasions, presumably by the hotel staff! (We were NOT impressed)!! 6.After Beirut walking around Byblos aka Jbeil was reasonably less nerve wracking. They couldn't (or wouldn't) print a file from a USB and told us instead to send to them via email(!!) - but their wi-fi was unreliable and intermittent! -( And perhaps the worst: 5. They couldn't (or wouldn't) give me any hotel letterhead writing paper so I could write a business letter (!!) - they said that it was against their hotel policy(!!). Reception could not show me where to locate the hotel on a map in my Lonely Planets guide - AND whatsmore, when I asked for a tourist map (their hotel facilities said they had them) I was told, "Sorry, we have no maps" THEN "Oh yes, we can find one - it will cost you $11"!!!! (I then walked into old city centre tourism office and got one for FREE! 3. Manager expressed his frustration with me when I needed help with the room security box. Alas! this meant that I could not recommend this place to stay. ![]() ![]() GRAND ASTON Cayo Las Brujas Beach Resort & Spaīyblos is the most fascinating place to explore and the people there are very friendly!
